R31: Back of Beyond

Back of Beyond by C. J. Box

Back to my new favourite.  Another library book find so will need to reap it, to keep it.  It is a stand alone novel but the lead protagonist Detective Cody Hoyt has been in some of the Joe Pickett stories.  I loved it!!!  It was action packed and had some great twists.  Box never disappoints me!!  The plot forms around a guided outfitting trip that goes horrifically wrong and basically an abstract treasure hunt.

Highly recommend Box if you like the outdoors and great plot twists.

Additional thoughts:  I have been thinking about Back of Beyond and one part is not working for me.  It was the murder of one of the characters.  I don’t think the plot required it and as a plot device to help Hoyt with his battle with alcoholism it was kind of wasteful.  Still loved it but that death was annoying me.

Since I first reviewed this I have reaped it!!  YAY

I was 46 years old when I begun this blog, female and married with a house full of cats (7). My past is littered with the impact of events that happened when I was a teen. Two loves of my life have been nursing and studying. I just completed my Master of Arts: Media Studies endorsement. My blog will be about the things I think about, that might be better served being written rather than squirreled away in my mind festering. It is the meanderings of my mind as I seek to define myself and my world.

What do you think?
