A Bird, a Plane, You!
You get to choose one superpower. Pick one of these, and explain your choice:
- the ability to speak and understand any language
- the ability to travel through time
- the ability to make any two people agree with each other
I want the ability to speak and understand in any language. Its a selfish superpower because I simply want to use it for my own education and enjoyment. I appreciate the way that people communicate in their own language. It is so very different from how they communicate when forced to accommodate someone who does not speak the same language. The rhythm and beauty is often lost in that accommodation.
The ability to travel through time is not of interest to me especially since I am currently learning to live in each moment. This is instead of dwelling in the past or fearing some shadowy as yet unfolding future. Plus I have read so many science fiction stories that I would be terrified that I stomped on an ant and destroyed an entire species or society.
The third option of having the ability to make any two people agree with each other brings with it the chance of destroying innovation. Sometimes within creative differences their can be an idea that comes from that argument that might not have otherwise been thought of. Arguments, not the massive death toll kind of course, can also spur competition leading to even greater achievement.
I have also watched Serenity and the origins of the Reavers so not so keen on artificial peace.
